Last of Us Part II just received an update that gives players the option to significantly increase game difficulty. It adds both permadeath and the fan-favorite grounded mode that was originally introduced in the first game. There are also a ton of new camera filters, smaller gameplay modifiers, and improved accessibility options. It's a lot to take in, and these new Last of Us 2 modes are no joke. So here are six tips to allow you to succeed in both permadeath and grounded modes with a bit more are Grounded and Permadeath in Last of Us 2?Grounded is a difficulty setting that was first made available in Last of Us. According to the developer, it increases the game difficulty by "making enemies deadlier and ammo, upgrade, and crafting materials incredibly scarce." The setting also removes listen mode and some elements of the Grounded, permadeath is a gameplay modifier that can be enjoyed on any difficulty setting. With the modifier active, if you die, you'll face more rigorous checkpoints, requiring you to restart an entire selection of gameplay if you perish. Completing the game on either Grounded or Permadeath will grant you a brand new sparkly trophy. Here's how you can have a less hair pulling time succeeding at both. 6. Let your partner defeat the dregs — For much of Last of Us Part 2, you'll travel the world with an ally who can kill enemies on their own. Let this ally take on and defeat the last remaining foes in each section. This will save you a little droplet of resources and health, granting you an easier time in a later section. 5. Let other humans fight the zombies — Sometimes you'll simultaneously encounter both humans and infected. While this seems like a match made in hell, it might just save your life. Using a noise-making object or your own body, you can lure infected into facing down the humans on your behalf. This will thin the opposition out, allowing you to have safe passage throughout the Bricks and bottles are your allies — When resources are lacking, bricks and bottles get a-cracking. The two items can be used to distract foes when thrown in an empty space. You can also throw them directly at an enemy to stun them, allowing the foe to be taken out immediately after. This allows clickers to be taken out with fewer resources, saving your good stuff for later battles. A raw Dog3. Stealth is the safest way to brawl — Don't make yourself known. If you're playing through Grounded mode or Permadeath, the best course of action is to stick to the shadows, defeating enemies only when necessary. Many conflicts in Last of Us 2 are outright skippable, making it easy to reach the conclusion if you can stay quiet. 2. Don't use materials to make health packs — In Grounded mode, you'll be given far fewer resources. Don't waste these on making health packs. You'll die in a hit or two anyways, those materials can be better used on crafting more weaponry. Instead, save your upgrade pills to improve your health. Bolster your health when it's low to completely refill your bar. This won't waste primary resources and you'll return stronger. A win-win! 1. Save your molotovs for high-level foes — Everyone knows the human form can be swiftly bested with an overwhelming flame, which molotovs can provide. Don't waste this unstoppable force on an average joe! Save your molotovs for Stalkers, Shamblers, and Bloaters. You can defeat those horrid foes without much horror by using a well-placed molotov. Honorable Mention Scream and take breaks — While it's not a necessary step to success, screaming can be helpful for releasing your anxiety. Grounded is a frustrating mode. Then you go to Hillcrest to find Tommy. You will hear gunshots in the distance - go in their direction. Before you go further, you can, search the nearby buildings. Enter one of the buildings and then reach its back - you will find a ladder that you can climb to the roof. Enemy Patrol You will reach an area patrolled by a wolf squad. What's new is that one of the soldiers has a dog that can, smell you. When you activate Ellie's sight mode, you will see a scent trail - when a dog comes across your scent, you will need to change position quickly. You can, for example, enter the water to remove the smell. You can avoid enemies, although it is much safer to eliminate them quietly - set up a mine trap to eliminate the dog tracking you. You can kill the rest of the enemies by, using the tall grass and numerous creeks between buildings to get behind their backs. Your goal is to reach the big red doors that say Exit. Further path You get to a square where you can approach the gate. Open it and you will gain access to the green container. Move it past the garage, set it up and climb it to reach the garage roof. Now jump down to the basement, where you will hear a Shambler in the distance. Kill the enemy with, the shotgun or use stealth if you want to avoid confrontation and go up the ruined stairs to the top. Along the way, you come across a magazine that unlocks the Precision skill tree for Ellie. It can improve your accuracy and stability while shooting. Outside, you will find two runners you need to kill. Your job is to break through the nearby bar which has a Shambler and a runner. Go to the back of the bar and then take the stairs up. Getting a bow You will see black smoke - go towards it. Along the way, you will come across three runners. After the fight, search the surrounding houses - one of them has shattered door. Go through it and you will be attacked by a new enemy - stalker. This enemy is the next mutation level. The opponent is quick, can dodge, and is more dangerous in melee combat. Dodge and try to eliminate him quickly. As a reward, you will get a bow. Go outside and practice shooting. Remember to take arrows from shot targets afterward. Jump over the fence and you will come across another wolf patrol. Second wolf patrol Start this encounter by remaining undetected. Try to eliminate the lone woman - leave the man with a dog for later. Jump through the window and you will encounter more WLF soldiers. Stick to the right side and try to go around the buildings and then enter the building from the right. That way, you will get past most of the guards. You will also be able to kill the last of them with ease. After that, jump through the window. It's going to get worse here because the dog will detect you almost immediately. Jump into the dilapidated building - two wolves with melee weapons will attack you immediately. It's good to prepare for this by having the shotgun equipped or by placing a mine in the passageway. After killing them, you can continue to sneak - eliminate the next guard. Then go up the stairs, kill a woman charging at you with a machete, and jump out the window. Car escape You come across Jesse, who has set out to help Ellie and Dina. Come out of hiding and hide near Jesse. When the boy runs to kill one of the guards, follow him and quickly kill the other guard. Now, wait for the next two to start searching, sneak behind their backs, and again, kill them together with Jesse. Jesse gets car keys. Follow him and then get in the car. The vehicle won't start - shoot the guards located at the rear. When one of the thugs grabs the man, press the Square button to free him. Another car will be chasing you - keep shooting it, and when it gets close, shoot the driver. After a while, an army of mutants will arrive. Shoot at those who are close and are able to grab the car. When the car lands in the water, you will see a cut-scene. Next Seattle Day 2 - Ellie Finding Strings Prev Seattle Day 1 - Ellie The Birthday Gift - flashback Hillcrestis the hardest area to me in Ellie's playthrough, next to the Subway Systems in Day 1. Those Shambler encounters, the never-ending enemy encounters in that one neighborhood, it's awful, yet still so fun. But man, Day 2 is where permadeath runs are going to challenge a bunch of folks.

Journal Entry - Fuck the WLF Graffiti After jumping over the truck and watching the WLF Soldiers drive off, examine the Fuck the WLF graffiti on the WLF banner in front of you to get a new journal entry. Artifact - Yolanda’s Note Enter the used and rare books store next to the Ruston Coffee shop, and pick up the artifact behind the register - Yolanda’s note. Artifact - Need a Plan Note From the Ruston Coffee shop and the book store, head left down the road to a sinkhole, and look up to the right to climb up in front of a shop called Caroline Paper Co. Break the windows and climb through to find a note on a table in the middle of the shop. advertisementTrading Card - Shair the Sorcerer Also inside Caroline Paper Co., head to the very back of the shop where several small cardboard boxes have been stacked and look inside the tops of them for the card to appear - it’s easily missed in the dark as the icon won’t appear unless you are looking down into the box. Workbench Location - Bicycle Shop After climbing up the moving dumpster, you’ll get to a hole in a brick wall you can use to enter a bicycle shop’s workshop. There’s a workbench here. Be sure to loot this room as well. Trading Card - Naledi the Youthful Inside the bicycle shop’s workshop, look around to the back of the room with a door leading to an office, and a cork board. Below the board is a bicycle stashed in the corner, and a trading card has been placed in the spokes of the back wheel. Artifact - Condolence Noteadvertisement Walk around the bicycle shop’s workshop area towards the back, and enter the office connected to it. There, you’ll find an artifact Condolence Note. Training Manual - Precision SkillsExit the bicycle shop and head through to the liquor store nearby and pick up the Precision Training Manual behind the cash register on the floor. This manual can also be found after clearing out the basement below the liquor store of Shamblers, and crawling through a hole to come up into a children’s bookstore where the manual may be found by the remains of a mutated body. Artifact - Note in Hillcrest Tattoo Parlor Head into Velvet Tattoo parlor and loot the place for supplies including supplements. In the back office area, there’s an artifact on the table. Artifact - Turn in Borisadvertisement Look for a pet store and dog grooming salon at the end of the street, where a Shambler and Runner are staggering about. The door to the grooming salon is locked, but you can smash the windows to hop over kill the infected first or they’ll be alerted to this. Once inside, look to the sinks on the right to find a note. Artifact - Dale’s Combo The pet store and grooming salon has a broken wall leading into a bar with a billiards hall where the Shambler and Runner are likely to wander. After killing them, head into the back kitchen and look on the left wall as you enter to find several papers - and a note you can grab. The note includes a safe combo, which you can access behind the row of buildings on the opposite side of the street from the bar. Safe - Auto Repair Shop and Gun Holster Location From the main street, jump over the fences or walls in between the hair salon and tattoo parlor you can also cut through the back of Shear Lux to find a sealed garage with a dumpster in front of the door. Move the dumpster to access the door to the Auto Repair Shop. Behind it is a bunch of runners so have a molotov cocktail ready, then get some distance and shoot. Another option is to line that area with some trap mines, and let them come to you. Inside is a safe with a Gun Holster if you didn’t find both in Downtown Seattle, plus lots of ammo, scrap, and explosives. Use the Dale’s Combo note from the bar across the street, and enter the code 30, 82, 65. Be sure to check the back room for more supplements and other loot. Trading Card - Brainstorm Once you get to the top of the hill and see the smoke from the mysterious explosion, evade the Runners and hop over a fence into a backyard with a small hot tub and child’s playhouse. Go to the opposite side of the children’s playhouse for the trading card - Brainstorm. advertisementArtifact - Boris’ Confession As you enter the first home in Hillcrest proper, look on the living room table near the fireplace for a note from Boris. Artifact - Rosemont’s Flyer In the same house, move towards the kitchen area and dining table. On the left , there’s a small table with an artifact on it Rosemont's Flyer. When you’re ready, head through the hole in the door by the kitchen and get ready for a quick brawl that gives you a Bow and the recipe to make Arrows. Trading Card - ReverbadvertisementAt the battle of Hillcrest where you must take on several WLF Soldiers and attack dogs, you can find a trading card hidden in one of the many houses on the block. After the enemies are dealt with, run up the first street to the very end of the block to a house on the right with an adjoining garage look for the house number 1214 above the front door. Go through the front door, up the stairs, and turn around and go up the hall to a bedroom with a window overlooking the front yard. Go prone and wiggle under the bed to find a trading card tucked away here.
